Marukyu Koyamaen Kiwami Choan

Kiwami Choan is Marukyu Koyamaen's latest matcha that won the Grand Prix, the top prize in the matcha category of ” Japanese Tea Selection Paris 2021” tea fair held in France, and is positioned as the next high-end matcha after "Tenju".

As a koicha, it is mellow and creamy, verdant and sweet like fresh green peas. It offers a remarkably clean and pure flavor that is by no means lacking in complexity. As an usucha, it has a slightly different character. It retains its creamy-milky sweetness while providing a deeply gratifying velvety texture, the notes of almond and walnut ebb and flow on the palate like gentle waves. Whether enjoyed as a koicha or an usucha, the aftertaste is consistently characterized by a tender sweetness, devoid of any tartness.

Compared to the Choan just below it in the lineup, this tea is notably fuller, sweeter, and more intense in flavor. It ranks just slightly below the top-rated Tenju.
